A master smith created your clockwork heart, My love, and your steel shell and amber eyes. With gears and wires he practiced his dark art, Gave you motion, sense, passion, made you wise. An automaton, you are smarter than The Mechanical Turk, stronger than John Henry, who beat the steam hammer. No man Nor woman can resist you: all switch on. You were made for alternating current, Till Edison, meeting you, craved your frame, Bought you, wired you for his direct current. We can’t reconnect, rekindle our flame. Though he makes you live at a constant volt, Ten times a second, let our hearts revolt.
