February 2nd, 2016 No Comments

On Feb. 1 (by coincidence, my birthday) Locus magazine posted its 2015 Recommended Reading List, and we at Mythic Delirium got a wonderful present.   Not only did our first book of short stories by one author, Bone Swans by C.S.E. Cooney, make the best collection list — the book’s original novella, “The Bone Swans of Amandale,” made the best novella list.   We’re so proud of Claire! To celebrate the recognition her work is getting, and encourage more of

Anita and I want to extend our proud congratulations to Swapna Kishore, whose short story “The Absence of Words” from our January-March 2015 issue is going to be reprinted in Paula Guran’s The Year’s Best Dark Fantasy and Horror: 2016, forthcoming from Prime Books.   We’re really happy for Swapna, and pleased that her haunting story will get a chance to reach a new audience.   We’re also delighted for reasons of enlightened self-interest. The Clockwork Phoenix books have had

Mythic Delirium Books award eligibility post; C.S.E. Cooney BONE SWANS novella available now online

January 21st, 2016 No Comments

I’m a bit behind everyone else in posting something like this, to which I apologize to the authors, who all deserve as much attention as possible for their terrific work. I have a reasonable excuse, though, as for the past three and a half months I’ve been preoccupied with finalizing all the e-book and paperback editions of books that I owed the backers of the Clockwork Phoenix 5 Kickstarter. There’s still plenty more to be done, but I’ve reached a

New review for BONE SWANS + Mind Meld + BEST HORROR recommended reading

September 30th, 2015 No Comments

Another praise-filled review has appeared for C.S.E. Cooney’s debut fiction collection Bone Swans, this one from prolific book blogger Little Red Reviewer:   Claire Cooney’s writing style is lyrical, playful, poetic, and gleeful. It reflects the pure joy she gets from the act of storytelling. You know that look on a child’s face when they’re telling you a new joke they’ve learned? they get this “boy are you gonna love this!” look on their face? You almost don’t want to

Mythic Delirium stories: Awards eligibility post

December 1st, 2014 No Comments

As of this morning, all 12 of the original stories we published in the digital pages of Mythic Delirium in 2014 are free to read online. This seems the best and fairest time for our official awards eligibility post, as award consideration season is just getting underway.   All of these works are short stories by the standard of just about every award out there. Only Ken Schneyer’s story, I think, could be categorized as science fiction; all the rest

Taking stock: CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 4 honors so far

May 12th, 2014 2 Comments

It’s been suggested to me (by my friend Dominik Parisien, to give credit where it’s due) that I ought to do a summary of all the award nominations and other honors that the stories in Clockwork Phoenix 4 have accumulated so far. I think, for a book started from scratch via Kickstarter and unavailable in most brick-and-mortar stores, we’ve done astonishingly well. See what you think:   • “Selected Program Notes from the Retrospective Exhibition of Theresa Rosenberg Latimer” by
