Ysabeau Wilce praises BONE SWANS, our forthcoming story collection from C.S.E. Cooney

March 25th, 2015 No Comments

Andre Norton Award winner Ysabeau S. Wilce (author of Flora’s Dare) has some very kind words for Bone Swans by C.S.E. Cooney, the first-ever single author collection from Mythic Delirium Books:   “Bone Swans is a joy of feathery bones & ghoulish clowns. I adored every word. Like an eyas cries for meat, I cry for more. C.S.E. Cooney’s a major talent and these are major talent stories. Who can resist hero rats, pouting swans, feral children, flying carpets and

November featured works by Sonya Taaffe, Alex Dally MacFarlane, Alicia Cole

November 4th, 2014 No Comments

The November featured content from Mythic Delirium 1.2 is live on our site, with a new story and two new poems offered free to all:   • Sonya Taaffe reveals the truth about William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe in the wry “Anonymity.” Her story has already drawn praise from reviewer Charlotte Ashley in her newest “Clavis Aurea” column at Apex Magazine:   The premises is cute, but the execution is clever: in elaborate, Elizabethan-influenced English, our contemporary reality is barely

September 25th, 2014 1 Comment

I’m proud to report that the Mythic Delirium anthology, a collection that reorders the first four issues of Mythic Delirium in its new digital incarnation, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. “Proud” is kind of an understatement, actually. Read on:   Rich word choices and settings that blend speculative concepts with quotidian reality highlight this stellar anthology of prose and poetry from well-known editor Mike Allen (Clockwork Phoenix) and his wife and copublisher, Anita Allen. Imaginative ideas abound, include

Praise for our story from Virginia M. Mohlere in MYTHIC DELIRIUM 1.1

July 22nd, 2014 No Comments

Over at Apex Magazine, Charlotte Ashley’s “Clavis Aurea” column spotlights Virginia M. Mohlere‘s “Hold Back the Waters” from Mythic Delirium 1.1, at present only available to subscribers (ahem!). Charlotte writes:   The strength of this story is in the world building. St. Bran’s is Annabeth’s home, a place real enough that it might be right outside your door, but where everyday life is conducted with a little mystery – a little magic. … With a great mix of epic-scale powers

April 29th, 2014 No Comments

We’re proud to share this wistful and heartwarming review of Mythic Delirium 30 from Amazing Stories blogger Diane Severson Mori.   She not only breaks down the issue poem by poem by poem, but includes links to audio recordings, and as well as tributes to Mythic Delirium written by several of the poets, which was a wonderful surprise. She also makes note of how well poems from Mythic Delirium fared with the Rhysling Awards over the past decade: “It speaks

CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 4 stories make Locus Online best of year list

December 31st, 2013 No Comments

Lois Tilton, short fiction reviewer for Locus Online, posted her year-in-review column Sunday, saying Clockwork Phoenix 4 was her favorite anthology of 2013.   My favorite of the year’s anthologies had a large number of fine stories with long titles. I was especially impressed by Kenneth Schneyer’s enigmatic “Selected Program Notes from the Retrospective Exhibition of Theresa Rosenberg Latimer”, a puzzling mystery in the form of a sequence of paintings. Also: “On the Leitmotive of the Trickster Constellation in Northern

Tor.com reviews CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 4

October 30th, 2013 No Comments

Clockwork Phoenix 4 is the subject of Brit Mandelo’s latest “Short Fiction Spotlight” at Tor.com. Brit writes:   Overall, these are good pieces and the anthology is even in quality—amusingly enough, I wouldn’t call most of them experimental or slipstream etc., though a few certainly are. On the other hand, “bold in the style of their telling” applies more or less across the board: all of the authors go in full-speed on the tone and artifice of their stories, which

The CLOCKWORK PHOENIX 4 special edition in Amsterdam

September 29th, 2013 No Comments

The adventures of the special signed-by-all-the-authors edition of Clockwork Phoenix 4 continues.   Corinne Duyvis, who contributed “Lilo Is” to the book, sends this picture from Amsterdam. In documenting the books travels, she writes, “My Dutch thing of choice was a poffertjes stand, which is very, very Dutch indeed (and also very delicious).”   She’s the first contributor to pose with the book, perhaps because she made the mistake of asking me if I’d like her to do so, hee.
